Joe Battaglia was born in Portland, Oregon in 1902. He graduated from Benson High School. Battaglia was a Royal Rosarian and active member of the Portland Rose Society, helping organize and direct Rose Festival parades for nearly twenty years. In addition, he was a sustaining member of the Republican National Committee and chaired the Multnomah County Republican Party. Joe Battaglia died in 1986. From the description of Papers, 1917-1980. Tom Lawson McCall (1913-1983) was a journalist and television commentator who served Oregon as Secretary of State (1965-1967) and as one of its most prominent Governors (1967-1975).
